Christmas Villages Buying Guide

A Christmas village is a collection of small lighted buildings, figures and scenery that many families add to every year. Beginners usually start with a starter set that includes a few houses, figures and a power adapter.

Scale is the most important thing to keep consistent. Different brands and series use different sizes, and mixing them can make figures look too big or small next to buildings. Pick one collection and stick with it, at least for the main buildings.

Check the power. Many pieces are battery-operated or use small adapters, while larger displays use a multi-outlet power strip made for villages. Animated pieces and pieces with music add charm but cost more. Plan the layout on paper before you set up the pieces.

Plan the display surface: a sideboard, bookshelf or tiered platform with fake snow and trees makes even a small village look complete. Store pieces in their original boxes or a padded container, like your ornaments.
