Slim & Pencil Trees Buying Guide

Slim trees keep the height of a full tree while taking up far less floor space. A typical full 7.5 ft tree is 50 to 60 inches wide at the base. Slim versions are often around 30 to 40 inches, and pencil trees can be 20 to 25 inches or less.

Measure the space you have before you shop, including how far the tree can stick out from the wall without blocking a walkway or door. Remember that branches spread a little once you fluff them.

Narrow trees have fewer tips, so check the tip count against other slim trees, not against full-size models. A pre-lit slim tree saves effort because wrapping lights around a narrow tree is fiddly. Check the height of the stand as well as the tree itself.

Use smaller ornaments on slim trees: oversized ornaments make a narrow tree look crowded. For very tight spaces, a tabletop tree may work better, and for the full range see our Christmas trees guide.
