Smart lights connect to an app over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth so you can pick colors, animations and schedules. Many work with Alexa or Google Assistant for voice control. Wi-Fi models usually need a 2.4 GHz network; Bluetooth-only lights work only when your phone is close by.
The biggest difference is whether each bulb can show its own color. Lights described as addressable or RGBIC can run chasing, twinkling and multicolor effects across the strand. Simpler RGB lights change the whole strand to one color at a time.
Some sets offer music sync through the phone's microphone, and some let you map the lights to the shape of your tree for custom effects. These features add cost, so decide which you will really use.
Check the outdoor rating if you plan to use them outside. For a simpler option, a regular LED string on a smart plug gives you app scheduling for much less.
