Realism comes down to the needles. Trees made with PE (molded polyethylene) tips look and feel closest to real branches, while PVC tips are flatter and cheaper. Many good trees mix both: PE on the outside where you see it, PVC inside for fullness.
Tip count tells you how dense a tree is. Compare trees of the same height, since a 7.5 ft tree with 2,000 or more tips looks noticeably fuller than one with 1,000. Hinged branches are faster to set up than hook-in branches, and a metal stand is more stable than plastic.
Pick a shape that suits your room: full trees for open living rooms, slim trees for tight corners. Check the base diameter as well as the height. If you would rather skip stringing lights every year, see our pre-lit Christmas trees instead.
Finally, plan for storage. A tree that breaks into three sections fits in a tree storage bag and lasts much longer than one shoved back into its original cardboard box.
